Former President Trump’s eldest granddaughter, Kai Trump, delivered a brief but personal testimony to her grandfather on stage at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night.

“I’m speaking out today to share the side of my grandfather that people don’t often see,” Kai Trump said. “To me, he’s just a normal grandpa. He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school.”

The 17-year-old is the daughter of Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump.

Trump smiled throughout his granddaughter’s speech. The appearance adds to a growing list of people, mostly women, who have shown their support to viewers. a more personal side of the former president.

His speech was not on the official agenda and he stressed that it was “heartbreaking” to witness Trump being the victim of an assassination attempt on Saturday during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was injured in the ear.

“A lot of people have put him through hell and he’s still standing,” said Kai Trump, stressing that even with all the criminal cases the New York tycoon has open, he “always” asks her how she’s doing.

Trump, she said, encourages her to be the most successful person she can be: “He obviously sets the bar very high, but who knows, maybe one day I’ll reach it.”

Right after his father spoke, Donald Trump Jr.who has accompanied the former president on the podium for three days and has participated in parallel events: “I have always been proud of him, but never more so than at that moment,” he said in reference to that July 13 when he narrowly escaped death and immediately stood up with his victorious fist raised, leaving an iconic image for history.

Donald Trump Jr.’s current partner also spoke on Wednesday, former prosecutor and former Trump adviser Kimberly Ann Guilfoyle, who gave an effusive speech that began by recalling that event that has marked the convention.

“Like you, I have spent much of my time over the past few days in prayer. And I know that God has placed an armor of protection over Donald Trump,” he said.

Guilfoyle also emphasized Republican favorites like the border, education and gender.

“I stand before you tonight more convinced than ever that this is the most important election of our lifetime as we must choose between security or chaos, wealth or poverty, national sovereignty or open borders,” Guilfoyle said.

Biden is not capable of leading America, “not even of walking out on stage himself,” said Guilfoyle, who was married to Democrat Gavin Newsom, the governor of California.
