Joe Biden after the alleged assassination of Trump: “I am praying for him and his family”

Following the shooting at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania that is being investigated as an attempted assassination, the president Joe Biden issued his first reactions expressing relief that his political opponent is safe and condemned the attack.

“I have been informed about the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. I am grateful to hear that he is safe and doing well. I am praying for him and his family and everyone who was at the rally as we await further information,” Biden wrote on his social media account X.

“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for keeping him safe. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite. as a nation to condemn it.”

I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania.

I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.

Minutes later, the president Biden spoke briefly to reporters, saying he tried to contact Trump and his doctors and plans to have a talk with him. as soon as possible.

“There is no place in America for this kind of violence,” Biden said forcefully. “It’s sick. It’s sick. It’s one of the reasons we have to unite this country. We cannot allow this to happen, we cannot be like this, we cannot condone this.”

Biden added: “The point is that Trump’s rally should have been held peacefully without any problems. But the idea… The idea that there is political violence and violence in the United States is nameless, it is not appropriate. Everyone must condemn it. Everyone. I will keep you informed and if I can speak to Donald I will let you know.”

But after a few more statements, most notably thanking the law enforcement officers who intervened, the president said he would wait for more information before elaborating on his views.
