The long-awaited boxing match between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaztwo great rivals in mixed martial arts, who now met in the ring in a 10-round battle that ended with a victory by decision with scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 95-95 in favor of Diaz.
However, Masvidal expressed his disagreement with the judges’ cards, since he considered that he deserved the victory and the blows connected supported him, since he landed more than his rival.
According to the count of the battle at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Gamebred landed more punches (176), but threw fewer (637) than his rival, who threw 730 and connected 148.
“I thought I won,” Masvidal said.. “I landed the hardest punches. Win or lose, we’ll do it again.” We’re 1-1, so we’ll turn it around”he said, recalling his fight five years ago and anticipating that there will be a tiebreaker.
For his part, Nate thanked the people of California who sold out the 18,040 tickets and packed the place; he also spoke positively about his opponent’s style.
“Mission accomplished. I feel the love here in Cali every time. He showed up and came to fight and so did I,” he said after the fight.
“I definitely felt like I got the most meaningful shots. When the judges see the videos, they will see that they were wrong”Masvidal insisted.
Finally, Diaz said he was not afraid to beat any rival and reach the top of boxing.
“I am willing to fight the best-rated boxer I can find. My main goal is to be the best fighter in the world“, he concluded.
In the co-main event, Shane Mosley Jr. lived up to expectations and defeated former world champion Daniel Jacobs by unanimous decision in their 10-round super middleweight clash.
After his victory, Mosley Jr. challenged Erislandy Lara: “I want to fight Erislandy. If you’re listening, I want you. Let’s go, baby,” he said.
