Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador On Thursday he thanked the migration position and other issues from US presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump for having a “different tone” on Mexico in their last debate.

“Now that the debate was over, I appreciate that the immigration issue was discussed, but with great respect for Mexico.”It’s a different tone than before and hopefully things will continue to develop that way,” the president said during his morning press conference.

The Mexican leader responded in this way to a reporter’s question about whether he watched last Thursday’s debate between the President of the United States, Joe Biden, who is seeking re-election, and the Republican candidate and former president, Donald Trump (2017-2021), heading into the elections next November.

López Obrador said he did watch the debate and wished both candidates, especially the Americans, all the best.

“I wish the people of the United States all the best.who are our neighbors, brothers, and countrymen, because there are 40 million Mexicans living and working in the United States and we hope that they do very well, very, very well, and that they elect their president,” he emphasized.

He highlighted the good relationship he has with both politicians.

“We have been able to understand each other well with both of them.”He commented, especially on the issue of migration, in which he said that Mexico works jointly with the Government in Washington.

He also praised the investment being made in the country, the creation of jobs and the importance of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), not only for North America but for the entire continent.

“We did the study and we had a hard time getting them to understand why balance is required, why It is important to strengthen the economy of all of America and North Americabecause if this trend continues, we made a projection in which China would completely dominate the entire world market,” he warned.

He said that thanks to this, investment has continued to flow into Mexico, economic integration has continued and jobs have been created, especially through nearshoring or the relocation of companies.

“That is a proposal from Mexico. We were the ones who proposed it, They gave it a name, it is to relocate companies”, said.

Finally, he said he would be attentive to the next presidential debate scheduled for next September.

“We will be keeping an eye on the next debate, which will take place in September,” he added.
