A state court on Tuesday stripped former New York City Mayor and Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani of his law license. for his efforts to help subvert and overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The New York Appellate Division ruled to disbar Giuliani “effective immediately,” saying he made “demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the general public in his capacity as an attorney” for former President Donald Trump and his 2020 presidential campaign.

“The gravity of Respondent’s misconduct cannot be overstated,” the New York panel’s 31-page ruling said.

Giuliani, he says, “not only deliberately violated some of the most fundamental principles of the legal profession, but he also actively contributed to the national struggle that followed the 2020 presidential election, which he does not regret at all.”

Giuliani was admitted to the New York bar in 1969, but in 2021 his state license to practice law was suspended for his work to overturn the election, and he was also suspended in Washington, D.C.

Giuliani has stated that at that time Yes, I believed in the false statements he made.while the court ruling says “there is nothing in the record” to suggest that is true.

The New York appeals court cited a variety of false statements Giuliani made to allegedly help Trump convince courts to invalidate the 2020 election results.

The former mayor of New York City has been embroiled in legal battles over many of these statements.

In May, Trump’s former lawyer was served with criminal charging papers at his birthday party on charges related to a failed conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election in Arizona.

In December, Giuliani was ordered to pay two Georgia election workers $148 million for defamation. Giuliani falsely claimed that the election workers committed voter fraud, one of several misleading statements he made to allegedly aid Trump’s failed attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.

Shortly after that verdict, Giuliani filed for bankruptcy.
