The Uruguay National Team received reassuring news after it was learned that Maxi Araújo does not have any injuries after the concussion he suffered on Monday in Uruguay’s controversial victory over the United States (1-0) at the close of Group C of the Copa América United States 2024.

The left winger of La Celeste received a hard blow in the 26th minute of the match against the Americans. Maxi Araújo was left lying on the field and after several minutes he was taken off the field on a stretcher. His place was taken by Cristian Olivera.

“After the first medical work at the stadium, he was transferred to the hospital designated by Conmebol to undergo the relevant tests. The imaging studies did not show any injuries; his progress will be monitored.”the Uruguayan Football Association reported in a statement.

The information was released on the social media of the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) to publicize the current situation of winger Maxi Araújo following the concern generated by his situation.

After the match, which was decided thanks to a goal from Matías Olivera (m.66), the coach in charge following Marcelo Bielsa’s one-match suspension, Pablo Quiroga, gave a brief update on the situation involving Maxi Araújo, which caused a lot of concern in La Celeste’s entourage.

“Maxi suffered a blow, he lost consciousness for a moment, but his evolution was good after that”assured the technical assistant before the AUF confirmed the good news that the player of the Diablos Rojos del Toluca in the Liga MX did not have any injuries.

In this way, the Uruguayan National Team is now ready to set up in Las Vegas where they will wait to find out who their rival will be in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Copa América. They will face the second-placed team in Group D, which will be decided this Tuesday between the Colombian and Brazilian national teams.

“We struggled to match the energy of the United States”

The coach in charge of the Uruguay National Team, Pablo Quiroga, acknowledged that it was difficult for them to get the victory against the United States (1-0), a result that allowed them to close their journey through Group C of the 2024 Copa América with a perfect result and that also left the host country out of the way.

“We were up against a very needy opponent, who came out to try to win the game from the first moment. It was difficult for us at the beginning of the match to match the energy they put in, but we got used to it.”considered Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant in the post-match press conference.

“The match was very intense, very physical, with a lot of contact. In the second half, both teams felt the wear and tear.”added Quiroga about what the duel against the North Americans was like after having beaten Panama (3-1) and Bolivia (5-0).
