The Mexican team suffered another failure. After being eliminated in the group stage of the 2022 Qatar World CupEl Tri was eliminated early again, but this time in the 2024 Copa América. Mexico has lost its place in the world and this is what it said Christian Martinoli.

The Azteca Deportes analyst left aside the algorithms and numbers proposed by the FIFA ranking. Christian Martinoli believes that Mexico does not have the level to be among the first 25 teams in the worlda position that previous generations had earned.

“The FIFA ranking says that Mexico is 12th, what a lie. Mexico is not even in the top 25 best teams in the world. Since 1994, we could say that until 2018, Mexico was working to be between 11th and 16th place, maybe 8th or 9th and 16th, which is a well-earned position and seems appropriate to me. But Mexico is no longer among the top 20 places in the world,” he explained.

A consequence of Mexican football

After El Tri’s new disappointment in the Copa América, Luis García also gave his opinion on the fall of the Aztec team. García believes that the elimination in the Copa América is only a reflection of the internal football.

“The Copa América simply confirms how damaged Mexican soccer is. At the management level, they continue to believe and sell things that are not true, they make wrong decisions and then protect them or they try through media issues to make us believe that we are making a generational change and that we are doing well. We’re not doing well, we’re going to hell“, he explained.

Mexico closed its participation in the tournament with just one victory in three matches. El Tri only beat Jamaica (1-0), tied with Ecuador (0-0) and lost to Venezuela (0-1). As in Qatar 2022, Mexico only scored in one of its three matches.
