With a message in the middle of the Copa América, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls on Latinos to vote for Biden

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez once again campaigned for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, in aannouncement addressed to the Latin community that is currently closely following the Copa América.

Since the continental tournament began, the Democratic strategy includes organizing parties and activities in sports bars, as well as a massive advertising campaign in various media in English and Spanish, taking advantage of the expectation generated by the football competition.

As expected prior to the tournament, President Joe Biden’s campaign is investing several million dollars in Latino advertising.

As an example, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez published a video where she insists that “It’s time to talk to your friends and family about why voting for Joe Biden… When we talk about fighting for working families, confronting corporate greed, protecting our freedoms or democracy “We are all on the same team, the Biden-Harris team.”

“During the Copa América help us turn out more voters… Take a break to talk to your friends and family about why they are voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris“he continued.

During the Democratic campaign, plans include hosting house parties, campaign-sponsored events at sports bars and restaurants in swing states and selling Biden campaign T-shirts, as well as a digital and television advertising campaign in English and Spanish, radio and other digital media covering the tournament, campaign officials said.

Hence Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez insisted, “So have fun and don’t forget to vote in November for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.”

Since August of last year, the Biden campaign launched its first ads in Spanish, although now they have also focused on commercials and propaganda in Spanglish, the mix of Spanish and English common in millions of American homes.

The reason for the strategy is that in at least three of the seven swing states, those that could define the election with their number of electoral votes, there is a high presence of Hispanic voters who supported Biden in smaller numbers in 2020 compared to Hillary Clinton in 2016, so they are seeking to reverse that scenario.

According to the Pew study center, it is estimated that 36.2 million Hispanics will be able to vote this year, compared to 32.3 million in 2020.

In those elections, 38% of Latinos supported Trump, ten points more than in 2016, but the majority (59%) opted for the current tenant of the White House, according to Pew.

Historically, Hispanics vote at a lower rate than other groups, so Biden’s challenge is to appeal to the issues that are most important to that electorate and thus achieve a massive turnout at the polls.
