The romance between Angela Aguilar and Christian Nodal is now a thing of the past. Pepe Aguilar’s daughter is now involved in another controversy for comments she made about Selena Quintanilla.
In a video that resurfaced on social media, AB Quintanilla appears giving an interview and talking about how unique his sister, the late Selena Quintanilla, was. The former member of Kumbia Kings highlights the inability of current artists who try to imitate the singer’s aesthetic and then begins to talk about one artist in particular. Although he did not directly mention Aguilar, the reference was clear to Internet users.
“There is an artist who — I won’t mention names — actually recorded a whole album of Selena songs and I don’t know what her purpose was.”Quintanilla said. “That person allegedly said that her goal was to show the new generation who Selena was.”
The video then cuts to footage from an interview Aguilar gave to Telemundo’s morning show, A new daywhere he talks about the reasons why he launched a project titled “Dance this cumbia”denying rumors that she was imitating the princess of Tejano music.
“The way that person made it sound like Selena was an old lady or something. The reality is that if she were here today, she would be an older woman with an amazing appearance, but the thing is that she was 23 years old when she passed away. She was very young.”Quintanilla added.
What did Angela Aguilar really say about Selena Quintanilla?
During an interview with Hoy Día in December 2019, Aguilar spoke about his EP titled “Dance this cumbia”which she made as a tribute to the queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla. The interview took place just weeks after the release of her version of “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom”The artist, who was supported by many and criticized by others who said she was imitating Quintanilla, took advantage of the interview with Telemundo to clarify the rumors about the reason behind her EP.
“I made this tribute to thank her because Selena always taught me to dream,” Aguilar said. “And I think that I am just encouraging the littlest girls, the youngest girls who were not around during Selena’s time, to hear her in my voice and be able to honor her just like I do.”
Seeking to clarify whether she would be imitating Selena, Aguilar stated: “I don’t think I’m trying to imitate her or make her. She has her style and I have mine. Imagine me trying to be Selena, or imagine Selena trying to be me.”
“And besides, she was already an older lady. I am 16 years old and I am just starting out, and I pay my humble tribute by saying nothing more than: ‘Thank you very much for your music, thank you very much for opening the doors for me and thank you for teaching me to dance’”the singer added.
“I think that’s what I’m doing in this tribute; just singing to her,” he concluded.
Aguilar also shared that she contacted the Quintanilla family via a handwritten letter and did not receive a response from any family member at the time of the interview.
“As I told you this was a tribute, I wrote them a letter in my own handwriting. I wrote to everyone and told them a little bit about why I was doing this project and I sent it to them when ‘Bidi Bidi Bom Bom’ came out, which was a while ago. [varias] weeks, so you still have time to answer me”added Pepe Aguilar’s daughter.
“They still haven’t responded”?the journalist asks, to which Aguilar says: “No, not yet.”

The singer of “Mis amigas las flores” has had a very media-filled month since her romance with singer Christian Nodal came to light.
In early June, it was revealed through a scoop in Hola! magazine that Aguilar and Nodal are in a relationship. Before beginning his courtship with the young singer, Nodal ended his relationship with the Argentine rapper, Cazzu. All this happened a few months after she gave birth to Inti, their first daughter.
Since then, many have suspected that Aguilar has been the third wheel in the relationship due to the speed with which the new romance was announced.
