SNAP coupons: who can receive $120 in July?

This summer the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), through the Food and Nutrition Service, plans to benefit low-income families with school-age children with an additional payment of up to $120.

According to the entity, this benefit will be an extension of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) called SUN Buck for children who receive free school meals.

According to the official USDA statement, this money will be deposited into EBT transfer cards during the months of June, July and August. The amount assigned will be $40 dollars per month for each dependent child.

Some 29 million children in at least 35 states across the country are expected to benefit this year. To qualify, families must meet these requirements:

  • Households must be receiving benefits from the SNAP, TANF, Head Start programs, the latter of which is administered by the school district.
  • Dependent children of the household must receive free meals at school.
  • Families must have an income limit at or below 185% of the federal poverty level for the 2023-2024 school year.

Can a non-US citizen receive the extra benefit?

The Department of Agriculture clarified that You do not need to be a US citizen to qualify for this extra benefit., In addition, these financial aid such as SNAP do not affect the immigration status of your family or any other legal residence procedure.
