Deadly Kansas crash: Two Colorado residents killed in vintage biplane

Authorities are investigating the crash of an antique biplane in northwest Kansas that killed two Colorado residents.

The 1934 WACO YKC single-engine biplane crashed in a field about 10 miles north of Hoxie in Sheridan County around 6:10 p.m. Sunday, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

The Patrol identified the pilot as David Allen, 78, of Elbert, Colorado, and the passenger as Jeanne Allen, 79. They died at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are handling the investigation.

Five dead in New York plane crash

Five members of a family, including two young children, were killed on Sunday when a small plane crashed shortly after taking off from an airport in upstate New York.

Georgia residents Roger Beggs, 76, Laura VanEpps, 43, Ryan VanEpps, 42, James R. VanEpps, 12, and Harrison VanEpps, 10, had been in the upstate area to attend a baseball tournament in Cooperstown, officials said Monday.

They died when The single-engine Piper Malibu Mirage that was taking them home crashed around 2 p.m. Sunday in Masonville.shortly after taking off from Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta, state police said.

They were discovered after a multi-agency search using drones, all-terrain vehicles and helicopters led to the discovery of debris and ultimately the downed plane, the police report cited by the New York Post added.

It was not immediately clear who owned the plane.which was headed to West Virginia to refuel before leaving for its final destination, Cobb County International Airport in Atlanta, police said.

The accident is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
