Colombia advances to the quarterfinals and the song “The rhythm that unites us” by Ryan Castro goes viral

Colombians have celebrated the triumphs of the Colombian National Team during their victories in the Copa America. Many of them show their support on social media with Ryan Castro’s new song, “The rhythm that unites us”which is the official theme song for the Colombian national team at the 2024 Copa América.

Castro, originally from Medellin, Colombia, released the song on June 8 during the Colombia-USA match. Since then, he has amassed 15 million streams of the song across all digital platforms, reached 10 million views on YouTube, and peaked at No. 5 on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs.

The song combines reggaeton rhythms with sounds from the gaita, a Colombian instrument. The song also features the voices of two star players of the Colombian team: Juan Fernando Quintero and Luis Díaz.

“We made the song in collaboration with the Colombian Football Federation and I am very proud. I think it all came about because of the passion that the national team inspires, and also because I am friends with several players, which made the whole process easier.”Castro told La Opinión.

“The fact that Luchito and Juanfe participated singing excited people a lot, because our players are very loved in Colombia. The combination of reggaeton with Colombian rhythms like cumbia generated a great euphoria that can be felt in the streets.”he added.

Public figures and celebrities have also shown their support for the team and Castro, sharing montages on their social networks with videos where the catchy song serves as a background.

Among them, Juaneswho is currently on tour in Europe, but football fever led him to take a break to post a video. In it, he swaps his iconic black shirt, for which he is known for his song “La camisa negra”, with the national team jersey, referencing the line from Castro’s song that says: “If Juanes had a black shirt, then I have a yellow one”.

Melissa Ortiz, a former soccer player and current Fox Sports host, performed a choreography with her co-hosts Wes Morgan and Jimmy Conrad, to the rhythm of the reggaeton song. Ortiz posted a video of herself entering the recording set, dressed from head to toe in the colors of Colombia, while holding a Sombrero Vueltiao and singing the chorus of the song: “Mommy, turn on the radio, turn on the TV, and don’t bother me because the national team is playing today.”.

Ortiz then began dancing, encouraging his co-hosts to join in, which they did. The video’s title is: “The atmosphere when Colombia plays ⚽️🇨🇴🎶.”

Another well-known face in the sport who celebrated the success of the Colombian football team was sports reporter Andrea Guerrero Quintero.

To celebrate the match between Colombia and the United States in Phoenix, Arizona, she posted a video of herself on the field, with the caption: “La sele en Phoenix.”

The music video for “El ritmo que nos une” was filmed in Barranquilla. The song fuses classic reggaeton sounds with traditional Colombian rhythms like cumbia, celebrating the pride and unity that football conveys in the country, especially when the national team gathers to play.

“I had a lot of faith in the song. I think the song is quite Colombian because of the genres we combine and that is why I expected this success,” said Castro.

“I am really excited to hear a song that is a tribute to our players playing all over Colombia and in other countries. For me it was a dream to sing for my team and make my music shine with this song,” he concluded.

Last month, Ryan Castro released his debut studio album, “El Cantante Del Ghetto,” which quickly earned platinum certification from the RIAA and peaked at #2 on Spotify’s Top Global Debut Albums. The album is a personal tribute to his roots and humble upbringing in his hometown, comprised of 18 tracks that blend classic reggaeton, dancehall, and trap.
