Regis Prograis, former World Boxing Council (WBC) super lightweight champion, does not believe that Devin Haney’s defeat is due to the fact that Ryan García tested positive for Ostarine, a banned performance-enhancing substance (PED), but for his left hooks.

In an interview with MillCity Boxing, Prograis said that Garcia ruined Haney the same way The Dream did to him when he rehydrated and went up to 160 pounds in the fight last December where he took the 140-pound title from him.

“I heard him say: ‘Boxing is dirty.’ It’s only dirty when it happens to you. I don’t know what he’s going to do. I know you want a big name. He wants a big fight, but he will have to find out who it will be,” she said.

“If I were him, I would do the same thing. There is little money. Fighting Sandor Martin is very low reward for very high risk. He (Haney) can probably do something else. That’s why he’s letting the belt go. (The rematch with Ryan) would make more sense.” Whatever he had in his system, it didn’t help the fight at all. Ryan did the same thing he did to me. “That’s how I feel,” he added.

For now, Devin Haney will take a break after Top Rank won the bid with a low offer of $2.42 million for the defense of his 140-pound title against mandatory challenger Martin, as Matchroom Boxing did not participate.

After his fight with Ryan Garcia, where he was dominated and knocked down three times by left hook, Haney became undefeated and his image suffered. Following King Ry’s one-year suspension for doping and the result being changed to a No Contest by the New York State Athletic Commission, The Dream regained his record, but not the reputation as a boxer he had before.

For this reason, the American announced that will take legal action against the Californian for how it affected his value in the market the fight that both had in April, a fact that could be seen in the low offer he received at the auction for the defense of his title against Sandor Martín.

The now WBC champion in recess assured that He is interested in a rematch with the Californian after he completes his doping suspension, but he will probably do a fight first to get in shape after his vacation.

Devin Haney, 24, lost his undefeated record against Ryan García in his second performance in the division, but after the Californian’s doping the fight was left without a decision. The American He has a record of 31 wins, 15 of them by knockout, and one no contest.

For his part, Ryan Garcia, 24, He made his boxing debut eight years ago and shocked the world by defeating Devin Haney in his last fight, but the PED positive led to the majority decision being changed to a no contest. The Mexican American leaves a record of 24 wins (20 by knockout), one setback and one no contest in his professional career.
