Hurricane Beryl intensifies to category 4 in the Atlantic Ocean and threatens territories in the Eastern Caribbean

Hurricane Beryl, in the Atlantic Ocean, intensified to category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scalealthough it still does not represent risks for Mexican territory, as reported by the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico.

According to the Mexican agency, the center of the hurricane Beryl is located 565 kilometers east-southeast of Barbados and 3,590 kilometers east-southeast of Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Its maximum sustained winds are 215 kilometers per hour, with gusts of 260 kilometers per hour and movement towards the west at 33 kilometers per hour.

“Hurricane Beryl intensified a few minutes ago to Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale”, said the Mexican Meteorological Service at 10:05 a.m. this Sunday, June 30.

Several territories in the Eastern Caribbean, including Barbados, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines established prevention and safety measuressuch as the closure of businesses and schools, in the wake of Hurricane Beryl.

Sabu Best, director of the Barbados meteorological service, warned on Sunday that The eye of Hurricane Beryl is forecast to pass about 70 miles away Monday morning (70 miles) south of the Caribbean island country.

In addition, The government of Saint Lucia has ordered a nationwide shutdown of the public and private sectors starting at 8:30 p.m. local time (00:30 GMT).

“The country will remain closed and you are asked to stay inside your homes until the go-ahead is given to leave,” declared Saint Lucian Prime Minister Phillip Joseph Pierre on a national radio station.

Similarly, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, urged the population to take all necessary precautions in the face of Hurricane Beryl, which is expected to leave heavy rainfall in the country.

Gonsalves said that the capital, Kingstown, is forecast to be flooded by sustained rains in a relatively short period.

In the hurricane season in the Atlantic basin, which began on June 1, Two tropical storms have formed so far, Alberto and Beryl.the latter which became the first hurricane of the season on Sunday.

This year the Atlantic will have a well above average hurricane season, with the possibility of up to thirteen hurricanes, of which up to seven may be major, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of USA.

The forecast indicates that a total of between 17 and 25 storms could form this year, that is, with maximum sustained winds above 62 kilometers per hour.
