This Friday the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) indicated that Diamond Shruumz edible products from manufacturer Prophet Premium Blends are being recalled due to a toxic substance that has so far caused the poisoning of at least 39 consumers in 20 states of the country.

The Santa Ana, California-based company explained that After an analysis of the food, the chemical muscimol was identified which can originally be found in certain mushrooms of the Amanita genus. “Muscimol could be a potential cause of symptoms consistent with those seen in people who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz products,” he said.

The recall of this brand includes 22 products such as: gummies, chocolate bars and cones that were distributed in retail chains in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee, the FDA report states.

The cases of poisoning began to be reported since May 27. Prophet Premium Blends said the last case occurred on June 23, 2024. The FDA has so far counted 39 victims of poisoning, including 23 hospitalizations.

According to the agency, consumption of this substance can cause “seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, loss of consciousnessconfusion, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heart rate and hyper/hypotension.”

For this reason, we recommend that consumers discard any Diamond Shruumz brand product or return it to the manufacturer for a refund.
