Gonzalo Zulueta explores his dark side in This Never Happened

Gonzalo Zulueta fulfilled one of his dreams: making his debut in a horror film. The 27-year-old actor stars in the horror film This Never Happenedwhich premiered on the Tubi platform on April 29.

In an interview with The opinion, Gonzalo Zulueta spoke about the filming of This Never Happenedhis experience in Disney productions and what he would like to do in his acting career in the future.

Zulueta plays Nico in This Never Happeneda horror film that follows the story of a group of childhood friends with a dark secret and that after a weekend together one of them is possessed by a vengeful spirit.

The actor said that filming a horror movie had always been a dream of his. “When they send me the script I (think): ‘this Nico is a little (evil)…but I love it because the job of an actor is just that, playing a character that is difficult and not normal,” said the actor.

On his experience during the filming of the movie, Zulueta assured that during the recordings the entire cast got so into their characters that there was a lot of tension in the atmosphere.

“When you are filming a movie for a whole month, for 14 hours a day you are a character and that makes you (somehow) become the character (that you play),” said the actor, who indicated that, contrary to what is said to usually happen on horror movie sets, they did not experience paranormal situations.

Regarding the challenges of playing an evil character, Zulueta said that it was complex but it allowed him to explore a side of himself that he did not know.“A privilege that we actors have is that we can explore that evil side that we all have,” he said.

“As an actor you have to find emotions (similar to those of your character), I have never raped anyone and I never will, but I have had anger against someone to whom I have wanted to say things… there you go working that character, obviously with great respect to the actress with whom I recorded a very strong scene. It was something very uncomfortable and difficult,” she adds.

Despite the difficulties that his character entailed, Zulueta assures that he really liked playing it. “I love it because it has a rainbow of emotions. He is funny, comical, nice, but then he is like drunk and falls heavy,” she said.

Before filming the Tubi film, the actor was known for series such as 4Ever, from Disney+.

Although he greatly enjoyed his experience working on a Disney production, Zulueta assured that he is very happy not to have been pigeonholed in youth projects.

“It was a super cool experience, they treated us very well, but it was something very light. “I am very happy that I was able to record that Disney project, but I am also happy that I was not pigeonholed in youth series and that I was just able to jump into a Hollywood movie,” he stated.

About his next projects, Gonzalo Zulueta assured that many doors have been opened and that he has done many castings, but that – for the moment – there is nothing defined.

“I have a very good relationship with Tubi and I know they will want to record something soon. We are also in talks with Telemundo because there are some projects coming up. I don’t have anything concrete at the moment, but I am open to making soap operas or series in Spain,” he concluded.
