Germany beat Denmark in the middle of a storm and advanced to the quarterfinals of Euro 2024

The German national team continues its path in the Euro 2024 and has already made it to the quarter-finals after achieving an important victory this Saturday against Denmark (2-0) in an intense match that had to be stopped during the first half due to a heavy storm.

After a break of more than 20 minutes, play resumed and the hosts showed why they are one of the favourites to reach the final on 14 July in Berlin by beating a Danish side that tried but fell short of the inspired Germans.

“The first 20 minutes were the best of the tournament. We scored a goal. It was not a foul. It was a blockage like the one that happens in every set piece. A couple of referee decisions with Joachim Andersen as the protagonist marked the fate of the duel played in Dortmund. First, a questionable forward position by the Danish defender meant that his goal was disallowed in the 48th minute. After the VAR review, the controversial decision was made.

In less than five minutes the Danish team player appeared again, this time to commit a penalty in favor of the Germans. Again, with a VAR intervention, it was determined that Andersen touched the ball with his hand (according to the chip technology on the ball) so the maximum penalty was sentenced.

Kai Havert (m.53) was in charge of taking (his second penalty in this Eurocup) and putting the Germans ahead, who already had the advantage and had Antonio Rüdiger as their best player controlling the Danish attacks in search of the equalizer.

However, that did not happen and it was Jamal Musiala (m.68), with his third goal of this competition, who increased the advantage for the Germans who will now wait for the winner of the duel between Spain and Georgia to find out who their opponent will be in the quarter-finals.

“You have to respect your rival and Spain competes tomorrow (Monday) against Georgia. Its ability is obvious. “If I faced my teammates (from Real Madrid in the quarterfinals) it would be a good match.”assured Antonio Rüdiger, central defender of the German team regarding their next match.

In this way, the German National Team maintains its firm step in its objective of returning to the top of Europe after the failure that meant its early elimination in the last Qatar 2024 World Cup. The Germans reaffirm themselves as a clear candidate to lift the trophy.
