Canada hit the table at the 2024 Copa América. The Concacaf team achieved its first victory in the history of this competition by defeat Peru. The coach Jesse Marsch trusts in the capabilities of those under his command.
Even though it wasn’t the most attractive game, Canada got the result. The Concacaf team defeated Peru 0-1 with a goal from Jonathan David. This victory places them very well profiled in the table.
At minute 59 of the game, Miguel Araujo would receive a direct red card for a strong tackle. Obviously, this conditioned the match. However, there is the Canadian credit for having been able to achieve the goal that gave them the three points.
“I know the guys are excited to make history, so it was a great moment (…) I told them (the players) at halftime that we were in a difficult match and that we knew it, but the key was that they were bending us, but not breaking us, and I told them that we could make history and show that we are ready for greater challenges. And we responded“said the Canadian coach after the game.
The Canadian team knew how to withstand Peru’s attacks. Even though the “Incas” were with one less player on the playing field, The South Americans continued to seek the equalizer and, at times, cornered Canada. But the goal never came.
Canada depends on its game
Without a doubt, this is something that few had in their predictions. Canada will reach the last day of Group A depending on itself to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa América.
Currently, Canada is in second position in its sector. The Canadians accumulate 3 points and thus surpass Chile and Peruboth equaled with a single unit.
On the last day, Canada will face ChileA draw would benefit the Concacaf team seeking qualification. Everything depends on what Peru does against Argentina in the last round. But luck is in the hands of “Maple Leafs”.
