The authorities and coaching staff of the Mexican team announced the unfortunate news, which is why he was officially dismissed. but the decision was made to keep him in the group until the end of the 2024 Copa América, in the meantime he will work on his rehabilitation.

“I felt the responsibility and the desire to give you this message, unfortunately my participation in the Copa América has come to an end. I have no words, it is a hard blow for me, I had that hope like my teammates have, but these are things that happen in football and I will have to learn and grow from all this,” said Edson himself in a message posted on social networks. .

Álvarez also said in this regard that: “Also, I have made the decision to stay with the team until the end, to support and encourage them as I have always done, Now I will have to play off the field, it will help me to begin my rehabilitation and return as soon as possible.”

Edson Álvarez accompanied the Mexican National Team on its trip to Los Angeles, California, site of the match against Venezuela, where he was seen using suitcases and then going to a hospital to undergo tests that revealed the muscle injury.

Faced with the decision to stay with the group, coach Jaime Lozano stated that: “His leadership, composure and defensive presence are invaluable assets to the team. We all hope for a speedy recovery for him.”

As will be remembered, Edson Álvarez suffered an injury to the back of his right thigh in the 28th minute of the match against Jamaica while trying to prevent a counterattack by a Caribbean striker. but suddenly he fell to the ground, holding his leg with a look of pain reflected on his face that foreshadowed, as it were, the worst.

Álvarez arrived at the 2024 Copa América together with Santiago Giménez, one of the two most important players in the Mexican team and it was expected that this competition would be the platform for his signing with Manchester United of the Premier League. But now we will have to wait and see how things move around the former América and Ajax midfielder in the Netherlands.

Mexico will face Venezuela on Wednesday, June 26 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time and 7:00 p.m. CDMX. With a win, The Mexican national team could secure its place in the next round of the championship.
