Drea de Matteo, the actress known for playing Adriana La Cerva on the show The Sopranos, has caused more than one controversy since she announced that she would open an OnlyFans account.
More recently, De Matteo, 52, sparked controversy again during an interview with TMZ that is part of the documentary titled: “TMZ Presents: Famous and Naked.” In the trailer, a fragment of the interview is shown where De Matteo says that his decision was due to desperation and lack of money. He later clarified that with that also came an unexpected empowerment and sense of freedom that the platform offers him.
“What if I did it out of desperation? Of course. What if I thought being on OnlyFans was going to empower me? Nor, that wasn’t the point. But I did feel empowered to take care of my family.”Matteo said. “So the negativity that came with that, let it come at once!”
In another cut that reveals another part of the interview, the actress talks about the sense of independence that her career on OnlyFans gives her, compared to the show business in which she became known.
“A lot of shit happens in Hollywood, and we all know it. “This is about having freedom, and right now I don’t have to explain myself to anyone,” De Matteo said.
How did Matteo go from actress to model?
In August 2023, De Matteo surprised many by announcing the opening of his OnlyFans account. The New York actress established a $15 monthly membership for her page, which she cleverly named “The Sopornos.”
De Matteo, born in Queens, NY, rose to fame with her first recognized role on HBO, playing Adriana La Cerva on The Sopranos from 1999. In the series, Adriana was the girlfriend of Christopher Moltisanti, played by Michael Imperioli.
His character died in the fifth season, but his performance earned him an Emmy in 2004.
Throughout his successful career, Matteo also participated in series such as Desperate Housewives and Sons of Anarchy, as well as films such as “New York, I Love You”, “Swordfish” and “Don’t Sleep”, which It came out in 2017.
However, during the pandemic, everything changed for De Matteo. The actress found it difficult to get work on television due to her stance against vaccines and related mandates, which she considered a violation of personal freedom.
De Matteo explained that her stance on vaccines prevented her from working, which led her to join OnlyFans to support her family. “I thought, ‘Well, everyone is in their underwear and being sexy on Instagram, and I don’t do that, but I can do it and get paid for it’… I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before.”commented the actress during an interview with Page Six,
The actress also revealed that she initially planned to launch a podcast with her husband on OnlyFans, charging a membership for those who wanted to listen to them. However, the idea evolved into lingerie photos due to demand from her fans, who wanted to see her adopt the “mobster’s wife” aesthetic on the platform.
In addition to her OnlyFans account, De Matteo also launched a streetwear line called UltraFree. The actress shared that the idea for the brand was born during the pandemic, with the goal of uniting people despite their political differences.
