The Mexican soccer player Ulises Dávila appeared this Monday for the first time before an Australian court for being accused of participating in a network to control the number of yellow cards in various matches to corrupt the results of bets.

Dávila appeared for the first time in the Sydney Central Court, where prosecutors promised to present evidence between now and August 22.

This same Monday, the Macarthur club announced that it is terminating its contract “mutually” with the Mexican soccer player.

The judge reduced the number of appearances of the footballer at the police station to one a week instead of the two required since his accusation on May 17 until now, reported the Australian state agency AAP.

The footballer, 33 years old and captain of the Macarthur club, has been accused of paying two other footballers professionals from the same club, Kearyn Baccus, 32, and Clayton Lewis, 27, amounts up to $10,000 Australian dollars ($6,636 dollars or $6,206 euros) for causing yellow cards.

The club and Ulises Davila have agreed on a mutual termination of their contract going forward.

According to the Police, the network generated thousands of dollars in gambling profits and it was controlled from South America, although it has not emerged from which country.

The New South Wales Police alleged that this footballer managed to manipulate yellow cards in matches played by his club between November 24 and December 9 2023 (when Macarthur faced Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC, respectively).

Likewise, Dávila would have tried, without success, to control the number of yellow cards during matches played on April 20 and May 4 of this year.

In May of this year, Dávila had been arrested along with Kearyn Baccus and Clayton Lewis in the money-fixing case.

The Mexican soccer player did not spend time in jail, but he did have to appear at least once a week, like the other defendants.

Dávila has been on multiple teams during his career. The footballer arrived in Australia after his time in India and Macarthur joined in 2021. This year he had 9 goals and 4 assists in 24 games.
