Rosie Rivera and Carmen Villalobos argue about Rivera's opinion about the arepa

Rosie Rivera does not mince words when it comes to expressing her gastronomic likes and dislikes.

During an episode of Top Chef VIP 3, Rivera admitted that he does not like a typical Colombian dish, which sparked a heated argument with the show’s host, Carmen Villalobos. In the episode, the challenge for the participants of the Telemundo reality show was to create their own version of the arepa.

Rivera, displaying an indifferent attitude toward the day’s task, made Villalobos curious about what type of arepa the Mexican would be preparing for the judges. Rivera’s response to Villalobos sparked an awkward moment between Lupillo Rivera’s sister and the Colombian actress.

“What arepas are you preparing?“Villalobos asked. Rivera responded: “They are not arepas”.

“They are what?”Villalobos insisted. “I don’t know”Rivera replied. “Carmen almost never talks to me, but now that she sees me [así], yes he decides to talk to me. I find that super interesting”Rivera commented during a confessional shot.

“Rosie, are you unmotivated?”Villalobos continued investigating.

“If you want to say that… yes. “I have never eaten that.”Rivera responded. “But you saw them here and you were able to try them”Villalobos replied. The Mexican answered: “I didn’t like them, to be honest. “I’m going to kill you, but I didn’t like them.”

Villalobos clarified to the Mexican that her opinion did not bother him: “No, not to me. The truth is that I don’t take anything personally, Rosie.”

Rivera interrupted her: “I don’t even know what corn is”.

“If I told you that I don’t like tacos at all and that I have no idea what they are, would you feel bad?”Villalobos asked. Rivera responded: “No”.

“That’s why”Villalobos concluded. “Me neither”.

What did the judges think?

When it came to presenting his dish, Rivera left the judges visibly confused, starting with the name he decided to give to his culinary proposal and the reason behind the name.

“They are called Saturday.”Rivera said. “Because on Saturday mornings we are raw and vomited.”

In the confessional, Rivera clarified what he meant. “On a Saturday morning you can be raw and empty inside, like vomited. The poor arepa is raw.”

Judge and chef Belén Alonso asked Rivera about her lack of interest in preparing arepas: “I listen and see, and you told Carmen: ‘well the truth is worth it to me’”chef Belén Alonso told him.

“For the advantage, yes”clarified Rivera, who later added in the confessional: “The advantages have been hurting people and I did not come to hurt someone”.

Jenny Rivera’s sister, who understood from the judges’ reaction that she would not win the challenge, then reflected on the losses she has had in life.

“I fought, but sometimes you lose”Rivera told Alonso. “I have experienced sexual abuse, divorce, I have lost my sister, I have lost my best friend… What is an arepa?”
