Colombian singer Karol G faces accusations of having copied the song “Despechá” by Spanish artist Rosalía in her most recent single ‘If I had known you before’.

On social networks, Internet users are comparing both musical pieces and claim that the Colombian even took Rosalía’s laughter in the video clip for ‘Despechá’ as a reference.

They point out that Karol G’s new song presents notable similarities with Rosalía’s work, both in the melody and in the rhythm and structure of the composition.

Both songs belong to the merengue genre, last year ‘Despechá’ became one of the most important musical pieces of the summer and this year, Karol G has also named ‘If I had known you before’, as an ideal melody for this time .

Amid the waves of criticism that the Colombian faces, Rosalía shared a series of photographs with her song and many fans claim that it is her way of responding to the controversy.

This post has already reached a million likes and received support from fans. In the comments it reads:

  • “When I grow up, when someone copies me, I want to be as elegant as you.”
  • “DESPECHA IS A HYMNOOOOO”
  • “We Brazilians will be supporting you against the witch Karol G, mommy”

It is not the first time that Karol G faces similar comments. In the past, She was accused of copying Rosalía’s aesthetics, in terms of her clothing and the nails she used.

Neither of the two artists has spoken about it, both have even coincided in some spaces and have not been seen together.

Both Rosalía and Karol G were on the Met Gala guest list, but they did not exchange a word, which could mean that they do not have any type of relationship.
