The former soccer referee leaders in Mexico Edgardo Codesal and Arturo Brizio ruled out in interviews with The opinion that the absence of the best referee of the Clausura 2024 tournament, Marco Antonio Ortiz, in the Copa America 2024 is due to a sanction for the penalty he scored in favor of América and that represented the crowning of the Eagles as champions, as they also denied that there was a “black hand” to remove the aforementioned whistler from the plane.

Regarding the decision that César Ramos will attend the 2024 Copa América as a representative of Mexican soccerCodesal denied that there are strange things or a “black hand”: “It doesn’t seem strange to me, the two are working with FIFA on a list heading to the World Cup: Both Marco and César are in the competition, but obviously César has more experience and a great advantage.”

Codesal added: “César Ramos is a referee who has great hierarchy, who has already refereed important matches in World Cups, So it seems to me that Caesar is one step ahead in relation to Marcus. But Marco Ortiz has grown a lot, but at the international level he needs to go to tournaments like the Olympic Games so that he can gain more exposure and we know that his time will come to have performances at that level. Maybe this will be César’s last in the 2026 World Cup.”

The former referee leader insisted that there is nothing hidden or strange things, much less a black hand in which César Ramos has attended the Copa América and Marco Antonio Ortiz has not been chosen by Conmebol.

“It is not strange at all, because César has a track record of two very well refereed World Cups. Both are growing as referees and one of them will surely be in a decisive match in the 2026 World Cup. César has a great chance to direct a World Cup final and arrives at this Copa América in his best maturity and also for the World Cup, and above all because internationally it already has a name earned by law within the playing fields,” Codesal detailed.

Finally, Codesal said that “what happened in the final has nothing to do with it, simply for Conmebol, César Ramos is better placed, he has more experience and Marco Ortiz is just growing.”

Arturo Brizio

For his part, Arturo Brizio also dismissed any type of controversy over the absence of Marco Ortiz in the 2024 Copa América: “César Ramos is better classified. The truth is I don’t see anything strange, but international races Many times they have nothing to do with what they do in your country, but FIFA and Conmebol do not pay attention to what you do in local tournaments.”

Brizio also assured: “César’s career with two World Cups, already with experience in all parts of the world, where they ask him to do it in other places like Arabia, like in the United Arab Emirates, it seems to me that there is no comparison. It is one thing for you to be the best referee in the tournament, which is a designation made by the Refereeing Commission, which may or may not be fair, and another is made by FIFA and Conmebol.”
