Since the fight between Haney and García was announced, everything was very controversial. The Californian had erratic behavior in press conferences and social networks where he admitted that he smoked marijuana and drank alcohol. After hearing the news, Haney asked the New York State Athletic Commission that change the result of the fight to a victory and thus recover his undefeated record. In fact, his father Bill Haney told ESPN that he will not negotiate any duel until a decision is made in the King Ry doping case and the defeat is annulled.

As the legal team presented evidence that Ryan García took two contaminated supplements on the days he failed the tests and explained that since the consumption of the prohibited substance was not intentional, they hope that the New York Commission will impose a light sanction of four months or less.
