The legendary Spanish player and central defender, Sergio Ramos, has put an end to his time as a member of Sevilla in Spain. After speculation about what could be his continuity in said club, the former Spanish national team player finally decided to leave the ranks of the Andalusian team. According to information from the Sevilla team itself, the former Real Madrid player informed the board of his firm decision not to continue.

“Sergio Ramos has informed Sevilla FC that he will not continue next season in the Nervión entity after having fulfilled his dream of returning to the club where he trained as a player and achieved absolute internationality,” the statement explains.

Sevilla wishes Ramos the best of luck

“Sevilla FC wants to thank the commitment, leadership and maximum dedication that Sergio Ramos has demonstrated in this campaign, wishing him the best of luck in his next professional challenge.”

Ramos will have the opportunity to say goodbye to the team’s fans through a wheel of press. The former Sevilla player will say goodbye publicly this Tuesday in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán press room facilities, accompanied by José María del Nido Carrasco.

His second trip defending the colors of Sevilla was full of ups and downs, but he finished the season demonstrating great defensive solidity and once again serving as one of the most notable leaders on the field of play. Ramos played a total of 37 games in the 2023-2024 campaign, accumulating 3,301 minutes of play and was able to score 7 goals.

Future in Major League Soccer?

The departure of Sergio Ramos was an open secret without a doubt and apparently the project of the Sevilla board and added to his salary, it was not in line with the hierarchy and career of the central defender, who seems to aim to leave European football in search of signing one last big contract where his earnings are quite large.

Major League Soccer could be one of the most attractive destinations for Sergio Ramos, And a rumor has been spreading from the United States that San Diego FC would be offering him three times what Sevilla could offer. Ramos would be earning a total of 12 million Euros (Almost 13 million dollars) for a one-year contract.

San Diego will debut in the MLS in February 2025. The American league has a different calendar compared to the European leagues and is played from the end of February to December of each year. Ramos, 38, won everything in his successful career at Real Madrid, for whom he signed in 2005 and from which he left in 2021 after winning, among other trophies, four Champions Leagues.
