Fire in Los Angeles County causes evacuation of more than 1,200 people

More than 1,200 people were evacuated due to the threat of a vegetation fire that gained strength during the early hours of this Monday due to intense winds. to grow to more than 15,000 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Early this Monday, the fire, which started shortly before 2:00 pm this Saturday in the Gorman area, had scorched 15,610 acres and was 8% containedaccording to an informational update published by Cal Fire.

Flames engulfed the rear of the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant on the 5 Freeway, where a vehicle ended up completely charred. Several cars were also damaged when the fire reached a nearby body shop.

“More than anything firefighters face strong winds“said Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Chief Kenichi Haskett.

It is expected that weather conditions, with strong gusts of wind and hot temperatures prevailing in the afternoon push the firewhich reached Ventura County this Sunday night.

The firefighters said that a commercial property had been hit and destroyed by fire, while 10 other structures are threatened. Fifty homes are also at risk of being hit by the flames, so there are evacuation warnings.

Haskett said that Residents of the Castaic area received an evacuation warningso they asked that they be prepared with a “travel bag” in case they have to leave their homes.

Los Angeles County Fire Department had another front to attack, with a fire that burned several structures and threatened to destroy about 1,000 homes in the Lancaster area.

At around 3:45 pm this Sunday, emergency services responded to a three-alarm fire believed to have started near 80th Street and Avenue K.
