U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in coordination with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, arrested eight foreigners residing in the country due to his alleged links with the terrorist group calling itself the Islamic State (ISIS).

The authorities announced that Citizens from Tajikistan were located in Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia, because they lacked documentation to justify their entry into the national territory.

In fact, it is indicated that These same people had previously been detained when they entered the country without documents across the border with Mexico.

However, they were later released. with the commitment to appear before an immigration court.

Apparently, at the time, no connection to ISIS was detected, but details later emerged that left them exposed as a possible risk to national security.

The arrests of the Tajiks occurred months after statements issued by Christopher Wray, director of the FBI, where he warned about the existence of human smuggling operations on the southern border with possible connections to terrorist groups.

Later, the picture became even more complicated when, during a meeting before the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies, the lawyer who serves as the eighth director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation this time referred to the There is a risk that, since last year, the United States will suffer an event similar to the one perpetrated in March by the Islamic State, in a concert hall in the Russian province of Khorasan, where 137 people lost their lives and more than 180 were injured. .

From that momentthe ICE leadership ordered to review again the lists of foreigners settled irregularly in the country to rule out any linked to ISIS.

In this regard, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a statement in which they announced that they will extend the review of ICE files to avoid possible threats.

“The United States has been in a heightened threat environment. “The FBI and DHS will continue to work 24 hours a day with our partners to identify, investigate and disrupt potential threats to national security,” part of the letter states.

Although there was no active terrorist plot, deporting the Tajiks as soon as possible is being discussed.

The controversial point is that, for both operational and diplomatic reasons, it is very difficult for the United States to deport immigrants to Tajikistan.
