Elections in Mexico 2024: Mexicans vote this Sunday, June 2, to elect AMLO's replacement for the presidency

This Sunday, June 2, Mexico is experiencing an intense and historic electoral day where the next president of the country will be known, who will replace Andrés Manuel López Obrador in office.

According to the National Electoral Institute, This day’s elections are considered the largest in history because more than 98 million voters are called to renew the presidency, in addition to more than 20,000 positions, 128 senators and 500 deputies that make up the Mexican Congress.

“Starting at eight in the morning we all go out to exercise our right to vote. Let’s not let others decide for us. Let us not allow any false information to prevent us from going to the polls,” said the president of the National Electoral Institute of Mexico, Guadalupe Taddei.

Eight state governments will also be renewed, the Head of Government of Mexico City and its 16 mayoralties, 1,098 local councils, 1,802 municipal presidencies, 1,975 trusteeships, 204 council offices, 14,560 council offices, 22 presidencies of municipal boards, 88 council committee offices, 22 receiverships of municipal boards and 299 community presidencies.

Election day in Mexico will begin with a civic ceremony by the National Electoral Institute in Mexico City and then opening the elections more than 170 thousand boxes throughout the country starting at 8 in the morning (central Mexico time), which will be open until 6 in the afternoon.

After the polls close, a quick count will take place. and it is expected that between ten and eleven at night, local time, the president of the National Electoral Institute of Mexico, Guadalupe Taddei, will give a message to the nation with the preliminary results of the election.

To guarantee the safety of those who will go to the polls this June 2, The Secretary of the Navy (Semar) announced a deployment of 27,245 members of the Armed Forces They will join the 233,543 agents who already carry out public security tasks.

For its part, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Electoral Crimes (Fisel), dependent on the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) of Mexico, announced that from May 27 to June 3, more than 7,000 agents were assigned in the 32 states of the country to address complaints from citizens on the occasion of election day.
