David Benavídez assured that after his fight with Oleksandr Gvozdyk at 175 pounds will speak with the World Boxing Council (WBC) to get the opportunity in September to face Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, undisputed super middleweight champion.
In an interview with ESNEWS, Benavídez – official challenger for the organization at 168 pounds – assured that he has the right to get into the ring with Canelo Álvarez and will present solid arguments for the duel to happen next.
“After this fight we are going to talk to the WBC and we will see what happens with that, but we are going to give solid arguments to do the fight (against Canelo) in September. I have the right to it,” he declared.
For three years David Benavídez has been the mandatory challenger and has sought in every possible way to attract the attention of the four-division Mexican champion, but he has never had a response. Although fans and many sports experts would like to see this great fight, the man from Guadalajara has not shown any real interest and the WBC has not enforced the regulations to order the fight either.
