Román Burruchaga, son of the Argentine soccer legend and champion with the Albiceleste in the 86 World Cup in Mexico, Jorge Burruchaga, qualified this Friday for the main draw of Roland Garros where the main figures of world tennis will be participating.
The 22-year-old Argentine tennis player achieved his first qualification for a Grand Slam, in this case the second of the current tennis season, after beating the Slovakian Jozef Kovalik (number 146 in the ATP ranking) in the third qualifying round with partials of 4-6, 7-6 and 6-4.
“I am very happy and very happy to have passed the ‘qualy’. It was a very tough match but I was able to get through it, there were three very hard-fought sets but I am very happy with the victory and now let’s enjoy what’s to come.”Román Burruchaga commented in an interview with ESPN after his victory.
Román Burruchaga, who began his participation in the classifications of the clay tournament in Paris ranked 145th in the ATP, had just achieved good victories this week against the Chinese Juncheng Shang by 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5) and the Japanese Yasutaka Uchiyama 6-2 and 6-4.
“I was at my limit, but the key was to stay there throughout the match and that was what I did by winning the second set, which was very close, and in the third set it also got very tough, but I managed to win the match.”added the Argentine, analyzing what his victory was this Friday.
With its classification to the main draw of Roland Garros, the Argentine presence increases to a total of 10 representatives divided into seven in the men’s branch and another three in the women’s branch who will be fighting to go as far as possible in the contest that will be held until the 9th of June.
