Robert F. Kennedy Jr. escalated his attacks on former President Donald Trump at the Libertarian convention Friday afternoon.

During a nearly hour-long speech at the Libertarian National Convention at the Washington Hilton, Kennedy repeatedly criticized Trump over what he called violations of civil liberties during the Covid pandemic, an important issue for libertarians, and rarely mentioned the President Joe Biden, according to Politico.

The 2024 Libertarian National Convention is a political event to select the Libertarian Party candidates for president and vice president in 2024. Trump is expected to give a speech at the event on Saturday.

Kennedy even challenged Trump again to a debate at the meeting.

“His bureaucrats ran him over,” Kennedy said, earning applause as he referred to Trump’s actions during the pandemic. “He relented and many of our most fundamental rights practically disappeared overnight.”

Kennedy earned the biggest applause of the night and a standing ovation when attacked Trump for his refusal to pardon Julian Assangethe founder of WikiLeaks accused of leaking US government secrets.

“He should be celebrated as a hero,” Kennedy said. “He shouldn’t be in prison, we should have a monument to him in Washington DC…. I’m going to do what President Trump should have done on his first day in office. “I will forgive Edward Snowden and drop all charges against Julian Assange.”

In February, Kennedy for the first time promised to pardon Assange and also promised to issue an executive order to end attempts by federal agencies to censor Americans’ political speech.
