In a similar way to what happened in February, The bipartisan border bill proposed in the Senate lacked enough votes to get it started and was rejected for the second time.

Senators voted 43-50 to kill the proposal negotiated by Republican James Lankford, Democrat Chris Murphy and independent Kyrsten Sinema.

Chuck Schumer, Senate majority leader, pointed out that behind the rejection of the initiative presented is the figure of Donald Trump.

“People want us to do things. People want us to unite. And when they hear that the only reason Republicans backed down on this bill is not because it wasn’t strong enough, but because Donald Trump said he wanted chaos at the border, they don’t like that.

The public is on the same page. And in the polling data, Democrats, Republicans and independents are all on the same page: act on a bipartisan bill, get something done,” he noted.

For its part, through a statement, Kyrsten Sinema criticized Republicans for turning their backs on the billbut also to the Democrats for not having made an effort to reach an agreement.

“Today, the Senate is demonstrating what many Americans already think about Congress: that senators come here for political games, not to get results,” he said.
