MONTERREY, Mexico – The governor of the Mexican state of Nuevo León, Samuel García, reported Wednesday that The death toll rose to 5 and 50 injured after the collapse of a temple during a campaign event by the presidential candidate for the opposition Citizen Movement (MC), Jorge Álvarez Máynez, who was unharmed, in Monterrey, the state capital.

The stage that had been set up for the closing of the campaign of Lorena Canavati, Citizen Movement candidate for mayor of San Pedro, Nuevo León, practically collapsed at the closing of the campaign held at the El Obispo baseball field, in the western area of ​​the municipality.

In the images, the candidates Álvarez Máynez and Lorenia Canavati can be seen running from the stage, while the towers and the main screen on the stage collapsed.

Agents from the emergency forces and state Civil Protection and the municipality of San Pedro arrived at the scene to care for the injured.

“The members of my team who were injured are already being treated at the hospital. I am heading again to the scene of the events to accompany the victims,” Álvarez Máynez wrote on the X social network.

Previously, the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, who emerged from MC, regretted the accident in a message on social networks and spoke about the weather conditions for Monterrey in the coming hours.

“Good evening, this is a very important message. I ask you to please take shelter, intense rains are coming in the next few hours. There was an event 15 minutes ago, unfortunately an accident occurred that left several people injured during a campaign closing in San Pedro Garza García,” the governor said in a message on the same social network.
