Sergio “Checo” Pérez is the first to regret the unfortunate performance he had during qualifying for the Emilia Romanga Grand Prix which will be held this Sunday where the Mexican driver of the Red Bull team will have a tough mission starting from 11th place.
The one from Guadalajara could not complete a good session this Saturday to the point of being eliminated in Q2 of a test that his teammate, Max Verstappen, dominated, highlighting the difference between the two drivers of the energy drink team.
“We had much more potential that we couldn’t show it, like Max has done; “He has done a great job to put the car there.”he acknowledged Sergio “Checo” Pérez highlighting the work of the three-time world champion who took his eighth consecutive pole position, equaling the legendary Brazilian Ayrton Senna.
For the man from Guadalajara, the failure they had during this classification was in the strategy they used to face the session, a decision that once again plays against “Checo” Pérez who is once again in debt in a classification, one of the points that must improve according to the heads of Red Bull.
“We suffered with the preparation, we played with the car a lot and in Q1 I couldn’t use new tires because when I was going to use them we decided to save them, so we went with the same ones in Q2 on my first attempt”commented the Mexican driver who finished 15 thousandths behind Max Verstappen.
“I put on used tires, and when I put on new ones, I gained a lot of rear grip and went straight into Turn 7. In general I gained a lot more grip than I expected in the rear of the car, and that hurt us”continued with his explanation of his performance this Saturday at the Imola circuit.
To close, Sergio “Checo” Pérez aims to turn the page regarding the classification with his sights set on this Sunday’s race where he hopes to be able to get into the rhythm to get into the fight for the first places in the race early on.
“On my side we couldn’t show the best we had, it was a Classification in which we couldn’t get into rhythm at any time”assured the Mexican who is in second place in the drivers’ classification this 2024 Formula 1 season.
After his fourth place in the Miami Grand Prix a couple of weeks ago, the Mexican Red Bull driver will look for a good result at the legendary Imola circuit that will allow him to maintain his position as escort for his teammate, Max Verstappen in the classification.
