Juan Soto has been one of the wonders of the New York Yankees in 2024. The Dominican has a contract only for this yearbut that does not mean that it is closed to an extension.

Soto, who is in his seventh season in the Majors at only 25 years old, expressed that “The doors are always open” regarding a contract extension with those from the Bronx.

The Dominican will be a free agent at the end of the season and his agent will be Scott Boras. The slugger is expected to seek a multi-year contract exceeding $400 million.

What did Hal Steinbrenner say about an extension to Juan Soto?

Hal Steinbrenner, president of the New York Yankees, spoke about an extension to Juan Soto and said that they want to see him in Yankee Stadium for the rest of his career.

“We would like to see him here for the rest of his career. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. His agent, Scott, doesn’t tend to make midseason deals. Me neither. I think it can be a distraction,” Steinbrenner said in the interview.

Steinbreinner did not want to give hope about a renewal for Juan Soto, although he did not rule out that there are conversations to learn about the possibility of extending the 25-year-old Dominican star.

“But like I said in spring training… This is a unique situation and a very unique player, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a conversation or two possibly over the course of a season. I think it’s worth doing at some point.”

As of Friday, Soto has a .302 batting average with 52 hits, 9 home runs, 34 RBIs and 30 runs scored in 45 games this season.

The Dominican has been one of the best hitters for the Yankees who are fighting for first place in the Eastern Division of the American League.
