NEW YORK.- The General Assembly of The United Nations voted for the Security Council to reconsider granting rights to Palestineas a member of the organization.

In the vote, 143 voted in favor with 9 against and 25 abstentions. The United States voted against it, in line with the veto in a previous vote in the Council.

Even if the Security Council once again rejects Palestinian rights, The General Assembly will improve the rights of that Statewhich will not have the right to vote or present candidatures to additional bodies that depend on the UN.

Without the endorsement of the Council, Palestine cannot formally be part of the UN, but it may be on the list of member states, including taking part in joint declarations on international affairs, but without a vote.

“[Puede] present proposals and modifications and introduce them; co-sponsor proposals and amendments, including on behalf of a group; “to propose topics to be included in the provisional agenda of ordinary or extraordinary sessions and the right to request the inclusion of supplementary or additional topics in the agenda of ordinary or extraordinary sessions,” says a UN document.

Members of the Palestinian delegation can even be elected as part of the Plenary Bureau and the Assembly commissions.

“[También pueden tener] full and effective participation in United Nations conferences and international conferences and meetings convened under the auspices of the General Assembly or, as appropriate, under the auspices of other United Nations bodies,” it states.

Israel shreds the UN Charter

Before the vote, Israeli ambassador Gilad Erdan shredded the UN Charter in protest for the proposal to grant more rights to Palestine and consider that granting more rights to the Palestinians is like supporting terrorism.

“[Están] welcoming a terrorist state into its ranks. […] They have opened the United Nations to modern Nazism. “It makes me sick,” she expressed.

He recalled that after Hitler’s rise to power, the Nazis tried to annihilate the Jewish people, but after the victory of the allies against the Nazis, the UN was founded to “guarantee that that tyranny never returned.”

He added that the Hamas terrorist group – which attacked Israel on October 7 – controls Gaza and has taken over areas of the West Bank.

“Today you can choose between weakness and fighting terrorism,” he said. “This day will go down in infamy.”

At the end of his speech he showed a mini document shredder and inserted the Charter of the United Nations.
