The Mexican Raul Jimenez He wasted a great opportunity to become the hero this Saturday but he had no luck in the definition and his team, Fulham, ended up drawing a goalless draw against Brentford in a match corresponding to matchday 36 of the Premier League.
Jiménez, who has been losing space in Fulham’s starting team due to the good performance that Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz is having, could not take advantage of the chance to shake the nets and end a scoring drought that extends to more than four months.
The last time the Mexican scored a goal was on December 31 in Fulham’s victory against Arsenal. Then, the player trained in the Águilas del América suffered physical problems that kept him off the field for several weeks, which the Brazilian took advantage of to make himself noticed.
Raul Jimenez He entered in the 64th minute this Saturday in place of, precisely, Rodrigo Muniz, and less than 10 minutes later he had the opportunity to change the course of the match. The Mexican, without any mark inside the rival area, found the ball and his shot went well over the goal.
In a play on the right wing that ended with a cross into the heart of the area, the ball went over the Fulham player and ended up falling at the feet of Jiménez, who first took a shot with his left leg that did not find the goal. It was the most key play that the Mexican had this Saturday.
Jiménez, 32, finished the match with 16 touches made, five of seven passes completed (71%), three of six duels won, two of two aerial duels and one clear opportunity wasted. All this during the 26 minutes he was on the field.
Beyond the result achieved by Fulham, the ruling could become a hard emotional blow for the Mexican player who had not played for a month, taking into account the substitute role in which he finds himself in the middle of the good offensive moment of the Brazilian Muniz.
Fulham thus missed a good opportunity to climb the Premier League standings, where they are in 12th place with a record of 12 wins, eight draws and 16 losses for a total of 44 points, tied with the Brighton this Sunday goes against Aston Villa.
With two games left until the end of the season in England (Manchester City and Luton Town), Raúl Jiménez will have a couple of opportunities to close the campaign with a goal. The Mexican, who has played some 22 games this season, has five goals in the English championship.
