Armed student killed by police at Wisconsin high school

Police killed an armed student at a high school in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, on Wednesday. after it was closed due to the threat of an active shooter on Wednesday.

Attorney General Josh Kaul confirmed in a press conference that the student in question appeared armed at Mount Horeb High School around noon.

Responding officers used deadly force against the student, who was unable to enter the schoolKaul added.

The attorney general said the suspect was a student in the school district, although he did not confirm the boy’s age or the school he attended.

“This is an event that breaks the security that people feel when sending their children to school,” Kaul said during the press conference.

Kaul explained that there is an investigation underway and did not offer details about the deceased student.

The Mt. Horeb Area School District took to social media shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, saying schools across the district were closed. The posts also told family members to refrain from going to any of the district’s schools.

“An initial search of the high school has turned up no additional suspects. Equally important is that we have no reports of anyone being harmed, with the exception of the alleged attacker,” a post read around noon.

On Wednesday night, the district announced it would cancel classes Thursday.

“In an effort to continue the healing process, we will be canceling classes for tomorrow, Thursday, May 2, 2024,” the district’s Facebook post said.

Mount Horeb is about 40 miles west of the state capital, Madison.
