LAPD patrol car involved in fatal hit-and-run incident in Hollywood

One pedestrian was killed and six other people were injured. in a traffic accident involving a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) patrol car and two other vehicles this Monday afternoon in Hollywood, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Gower Streetwhere paramedic services from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) treated several people with injuries.

The authorities said that a vehicle traveling westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard collided with the patrol carwhich was in the crosswalk at the intersection.

As a result of the collision, The patrol car swerved and hit a pedestrian. who was trapped under the vehicle.

At the scene of the accident, a white four-door sedan could be seen that had damage to the hood. It was embedded in the back of the police vehicle. and that it appeared that his airbags had deployed as a result of the accident.

Paramedic teams were working attending to the pedestrian who was trapped under the patrol car on the front passenger sidewho was later transferred on a stretcher to an ambulance that was waiting to urgently transfer him to a hospital in critical condition.

“We can say that there was no chase (ongoing)but at this time it has not yet been determined what other activity (the officers) were involved in,” said LAPD Officer Kelly Muñiz at the scene where the accident occurred.

“Unfortunately, there was a pedestrian in the crosswalk. When the police vehicle turned due to the collision, it ran over the pedestrian and other vehicles in that area,” Muñiz added.
