The Tortured Poets Departmentthe new album by Taylor Swift, debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with 2.61 million units sold. It is also the most successful album so far in 2024 in terms of streaming.
In its deluxe digital edition (with 31 songs) The album obtained 891.37 million views, setting the record for “the biggest week in streaming“. CD, vinyl LP and cassette formats totaled 1,914 million units sold.
The first time Taylor Swift reached first place on Billboard’s best-selling albums list was in 2008, with her production Fearless; Adding her new production, she has occupied number 1 14 times. Now their albums have tracks extra and different presentations. The Tortured Poets Department is available in editions Albatross, Bolter and Black Dog. With all this, it also achieved the week of highest sales in vinyl format.
Taylor released the album on April 19, and upon learning of the results on that sales chart (provided by the company Luminate) turned to his account instagram to publish a series of photos taken during the recording of the album, in which stand out Post Malone and Florence Welch (with whom he performs duets). A message of gratitude to her fans could not be missing: “My mind has exploded. I am completely floored by the love you have shown for this album. 2.6 million ARE YOU REALLY SERIOUS? Thank you for listening, transmitting and welcoming The Tortured Poets Department In their lifes. I feel completely overwhelmed. I was already so excited to get back on tour, but you guys doing THIS? May 9 cannot come so soon.”
The collaboration of Taylor Swift with Post Malone, “Fortnight”, is the first single from the album. The promotional video has more than 46 million views on Youtubeand it is said that it could debut this Tuesday at number 1 on the list Hot 100 of Billboard.
