Apple Watch users are facing a recurring problem that has been recognized by Apple itself: annoying “ghost touches” on the screen of their devices. This problem, technically known as “False touch”, causes the smartwatch to respond as if it had been touched, even when there is no interaction physical by the user.
What is Apple’s response to the failures of the Apple Watch?
Apple has addressed this issue in a memo sent to authorized service providers, highlighting that they are aware of reports related to this issue affecting the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models. This memo, dated February, instructed vendors not to replace affected units but instead advise users to wait for a software update while the situation is investigated.
Recently, in a new statement shared by Stella Fudge on social networks, Apple has expanded the list of affected devices, also including the Apple Watch Series 7, Apple Watch Series 8 and the first generation Apple Watch Ultra models. Despite this expansion in the list of affected devices, Apple’s recommendation to its service providers remains the same: do not replace the units, but rather suggest affected users restart their devices and stay up to date with the latest updates. watchOS software.
Frustrated users
The “ghost touches” problem has been a source of frustration for users Apple Watch for months, and complaints have been evident on Apple support forums and online communities like Reddit. Some users have even reported that the issue has gone to the extent of rendering their devices unusable, indicating the severity of the issue.
One of the most problematic scenarios where this error manifests itself is on the watchOS passcode screen, as described by a user on a discussion forum: “A few days ago my Ultra 2 was ‘possessed’, I woke up and it said ‘wrong password, try again in 3 hours’. It had phantom touches and it wouldn’t respond to my touch, and I couldn’t turn it off either, so I had to force restart it, but the problem persisted.”
Update
Although Apple is expected to implement a software fix to address this issue, so far there is no information available about a specific update that definitively resolves “ghost touches” on affected Apple Watch devices. This leaves users in an uncertain situation, with the possibility that problems persist until a definitive solution is found by the company.
While users continue to report this annoying error on their Apple Watchit is up to Apple to find a permanent solution that fully restores the functionality of its devices and provide a seamless experience to your users. In the meantime, those affected should follow the restart and software update recommendations provided by the company to mitigate the problems caused by “ghost touches.”
