Ryan Gosling revealed the reason he didn't want to sing “I'm Just Ken” at the Oscars

Ryan Gosling didn’t want to sing at the Oscars. Although the performance of “I’m Just Ken” was one of the best moments at the 96th Academy Awards, the actor revealed that he rejected the proposal the first time it was proposed to him.

In an interview in The Tonight Show, Gosling told Jimmy Fallon that His great fear of singing was that something would go wrong. That’s why she didn’t want to do it.

“There were a lot of ways it could go wrong,” said Gosling, who despite his fear gave a great performance, in which he was accompanied by guitarist Slash and his colleagues Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Scott Evans.

Before the Oscar ceremony, Ryan Gosling had confirmed in an interview with Variety that was willing to perform “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars.

At the time, Gosling, nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Barbieadmitted that he had no problem performing the film’s popular ballad if asked, but he had not been asked.

“Maybe it’s too risky for me to do it. “I don’t know how that would work, but I’m open to it,” the actor said in the interview, in which he also talked about the success he has had. Barbie.

Contrary to what many might think, Gosling said that playing Ken was challenging. “There were times when I thought, ‘I haven’t felt like I’ve worked this hard since. Blue Valentine‘”, said.

“There were times when I left Blue Valentine completely emotionally exhausted, lying on the floor of the car on the empty drive home. And it was even more difficult to play Ken,” he adds.

Gosling said he didn’t accept the role right away because he wanted to take time to be with his family., his wife Eva Méndez and their two daughters. “I didn’t want to miss anything,” she said of the decision.

Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig waited patiently for him and, when he was ready, convinced him to accept the role. “Months later I would call my agents or something and say, ‘Hey, who did you get to play Ken?’ And they were like, ‘Greta says it’s you,’” she recalled.

“In the end I thought, ‘Who am I to argue with Greta Gerwig and Margot?’ They had a vision for it. They believed it. And they believed I should do it more than I believed I shouldn’t do it. At one point, I thought, ‘They see something I don’t see.’ I thought it was such a fantastic role that anyone could play it. I understand it now, but it took me a while,” she added.

The actor admitted that he felt a lot of pressure because he wanted to do well. “I thought, ‘I can’t screw this up. I can’t be the guy who ruined the Barbie movie. So if I’m going to do it, I have to do more than I know I’m going to do,’” she recounted.
