In a symbolic act, the family of César Chávez, a key figure in promoting the labor and civil rights of Latino workers, expressed their support for the re-election of President Joe Biden.

This occurs after independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. stated that the “father of civil rights” in the United States, John F. Kennedy, would vote for him.

Although Julie Chávez Rodríguez, granddaughter of César Chávez, is the campaign manager of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, her family had not expressed tacit support in favor of the Democratic president.

“My family’s support for our fight is deeply significant,” Chávez Rodríguez said of the decision. “The legacy of my grandfather’s work fighting for farmworkers and the dignity of work for all weighs significantly on President Biden, and is one of the core values he keeps in mind and guides him every day.”

Chávez Rodrígez marked the difference between the origins of President Biden and former President Donald Trumphis unofficial contender for the November 5 election.

“As the most pro-union president in history and a steadfast defender of workers and unions throughout his career, President Biden sees the world from his (middle-class) parents’ kitchen table in Scranton; a stark difference from Donald Trump’s Park Avenue penthouse,” he said.

He recalled that the president Biden has a bust of César Chávez in his officean image that went viral in January 2021, when the president began to speak at the White House.

“Today, my grandfather’s bust stands in the Oval Office, a reminder that President Biden understands the power of organizing workers and that he recognizes the impact of my grandfather’s legacy to continue mobilizing our communities to participate.” said Chávez Rodríguez. “In an election that will determine the destiny of unions, our Latino community and our democracy, I could not feel more honored to accept the support of my family who, like many, will propel us to victory in November, Si se puede!”

The United Farm Workers organization, co-founded by César Chávez, had already announced in 2023 its support for President Biden for re-election, highlighting that the Democrat has proven to be a “true defender” of workers and their families, regardless of their race or race. origin.

Arturo Rodríguez, father of Julie Chávez Rodríguez, was president of the UFW, an organization that celebrated in 2021 the presence of the image of one of its founders in the Oval Office.
