Devin Haney, 140-pound champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), expressed that Ryan García has become a bad example for the younger generations after publicly admitting that he smoked marijuana and drank alcohol on his social media.

In an interview on ESPN’s Now or Never program, Haney indicated that García can do whatever he wants with his life, but does not agree with him spreading that message knowing that there are many children who follow him and admire.

“Ryan has been up to a lot of mischief lately. And listen, first, he has simply been a poor role model for the younger generation. He’s talking about drinking and smoking and doing things that you know, whatever you do behind closed doors, that’s you. He’s older and can do whatever he wants, I have no problem with that, more power to him. But there are many little children who see us, the younger generations who see us and are the ones who admire us,” he said.

“Why spread this message and why not spread a positive message? I grew up watching Mayweather and seeing how disciplined he was, how he said he didn’t smoke or drink, how he would go to the club and then run home. I grew up watching that and being inspired by it. So Ryan, why are you setting that kind of example for the younger generations? And what about these are antics and you are doing it or not, I just don’t like it and it became a personal thing for me now,” he added.
