Eugenio loves to dance. He barely hears a chord and jumps like a spring to interpret his steps in the style of Michael Jackson. Sebastian is very typical. He plays the guitar and his attitude is just like that of a soap opera heartthrob. They are Los Esquivel, the new sensation of TikTok.
Its story began in Monterrey, in the Mexican state of Nuevo León. Sebastián uploaded videos to his social networks and “Alucín” was the song that started it all. The song, which went viral, caught the attention of Marca Registrada and some time later both artists recorded it together.
“Alucín” debuted in Spotify’s global top 100 and reached the top 10 in Mexico. It also became popular in several Latin American countries and in Spain.
In addition to this event, the duo caused a sensation when Eugenio shared the moment he experienced with Peso Pluma at a concert in Monterrey. The singer from Guadalajara came down from the stage and found Eugenio in the front row; Both performed a fragment of “Lady Gaga.”
In 2023, Billboard magazine named the Esquivel brothers as one of the artists to keep track of.
After this great success, the brothers are not willing to let their guard down. A few days ago they released “Exceso”, a corrido that they recorded with the Colombian rapper Blessd.
“It’s a song that came about because of the closeness we have with Blessd,” said Sebastián, 24 years old. “He wrote to us to tell us that ‘Alucín’ was great [genial]”.
The artist took advantage and sent “Exceso” to Blessd, who agreed to record it with them. The result was an electrocorrido – a genre that combines electronic music with the corrido – whose video clip is full of girls, dancing and many sexual references.
“’Excess’ is directed at partying, at excesses,” said Sebastián. “We went to Medellín to record the video.”
After this song, the brothers plan to release an album for May or June. By then they hope to start touring through Mexico and the United States.
For now, plans to continue studying were truncated. Sebastián was studying software engineering and Eugenio was studying performing arts because he wanted to be an actor. However, when fame surprised them both decided to dedicate themselves to their musical project.
They think that their love for the stage comes from their mother, who used to do children’s shows in which she acted as Barbie. In addition, the brothers had a fascination with artists such as Ariel Camacho, Gerardo Ortíz, Marca Registrada, El Komander and Michael Jackson—hence Eugenio’s dance steps.
In the next few days, Los Esquivel will participate in the Tecate Pa’l Norte musical festival, in their homeland, Monterrey; It will be the most important presentation they will have to date, and it will surely not be the last.
