This was the NY mansion of Iris Apfel, the fashion icon who died at 102

The fashion world is mourning the death of famed designer Iris Apfel at age 102. Although she was very reserved with everything that had to do with her private life and only gave something to talk about through her work, more than a decade ago this legend of good taste opened the doors of her apartment in Manhattan to Architectural Digest magazine, where He gave a lecture on interior decoration.

His home, which was located on Park Avenue, was for many years the fortress that he shared with Karlher husband, who died on August 1, 2015 at age 101.

The property, according to what was stated by the renowned publication, had a decoration and distribution that transported us to other centuries in the 21st century.

“Everywhere are exquisite French chairs, painted Genoese dressers, antique cashmere shawls, New Mexican saints and much, much more. “It was all acquired, Apfel says, ‘a piece here, a piece there,’ during the numerous shopping trips to Europe he took over the years,” Architectural Digest reported.

Thanks to that tour we were able to know that his apartment had three bedrooms, a hall, kitchen, dining room, living room, main room, among other rooms.

Beyond attracting attention for its distribution and size, his home did so for its decoration, as was the case with his living room, where it had elements from the 17th and 18th centuries. There was a Sicilian chair covered with tapestry fabric from Old World Weavers, while the hardware on its doors was made of PE Guerin.

His decoration came mainly from Italy, France and England, as happened with the first painting he bought, which was a painting of the Infanta Margaret. She acquired it in an antique store in the city of Florence and like that, many more details took us back to another country and time.

There is no doubt, after seeing her house inside, that she was one of the favorite designers of the White House for the various transformations they carried out, since there was no one with as good taste and sense as her.

Known for her unique style and love of creativity, Iris Apfel died in her hometown of Palm Beach in Florida, leaving behind a legacy of decades of hard work. She shared her life philosophy on her birth centenary in 2021, which was her greatest joy.

In recent years, Iris Apfel continued working. She had a great ability to continually reinvent herself through collaborations with brands like H&M and Ciate London.

His love for colors and irreverent, macro designs are evident in all of his creations. For years she brought joy and vitality to the world of fashion in different brands.

Iris Apfel also popularized her oversized glasses, but she never sought fame for these pieces. She also for the bracelets and remnants of her giant accessories.

For her it was another expression of her passion for fashion and individuality. Her interest in fun and creativity has inspired generations of designers and fashion lovers.
