A Bolivian drug trafficker accused of distributing fentanyl in New York and linked to the overdose of a young man in 2022 due to this drug was sentenced to more than 14 years in prison, the US Department of Justice reported.

Authorities described Roy Escobar46, as a “repeat” trafficker who operated alongside his two adult sons, named Pablo Escobar and Roy Escobar Jr., and who sold “thousands of deadly doses” of fentanyl and other drugs in the Big Apple and Long Island, according to a statement.

Escobar was arrested in October 2022, following an investigation by the New York Police for the overdose death of a 26-year-old young manMarcus Mamourian, who had bought what he believed to be heroin from the drug dealer, but turned out to be fentanyl mixed with another more potent substance.

An undercover agent discovered it

The individual, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute narcotics, had previously been convicted of drug-related crimes in 2015 and 2002, but continued trafficking from 2018 until his arrest, according to police.

Following Mamourian’s death in May 2022, law enforcement found messages from Escobar on his phone and an undercover agent contacted the dealer posing as a buyer; He supplied him with fentanyl on eight occasions, assuring him that it was heroin, as in the case of the young man.

Escobar’s two sons, who were also arrested, also pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

In addition to the 14 years in prison handed down today by a judge, Escobar was sentenced to five years of supervised release and to pay almost $56,000 in fines.
