Missouri authorities announced that a crime committed in 1989 was finally solved, thanks to someone providing valuable information about the case.
Douglas County Police announced that three men were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, forcible rape and first-degree kidnapping for the crime of Kelle Ann Workman24 years old.
The three suspects were identified as the brothers Bobby Banks and Leonard Banksas well as Wiley Beltall of them in their 60s, CBS affiliate KOLR-TV reported.
Workman was last seen mowing grass at a rural cemetery in southwest Missouri on June 30, 1989. His body was found submerged in a stream over 10 miles away a week later.
“I think we can give Kelle some justice and hopefully give the family some closure, knowing that these guys are not getting away with anything,” Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase said at a news conference. press.
One person provided the necessary evidence
Douglas County Prosecutor Matthew Weatherman said the information from the person who came forward is very solid.
“There was a person who came forward after almost 30 years of keeping this inside, and finally gave us the last piece we needed to bring it all together“Weatherman said, although he did not specify what type of information they were given.
Asked if he was confident in the case, Weatherman said, “It’s as good as a 1989 case can be.”
Shana Beebe, Workman’s first cousin, told KOLR-TV that she still remembers the investigation when it began.
“I remember sitting as a family going in and out for search parties. It lasted several days. When she was finally discovered it was a relief, but it was also heartbreaking.. In fact, two of our uncles were present when they found his body. To this day, they can’t really talk about it. They have a bad time,” he said.
