Carlos Vela has starred in the transfer market in 2024. The Mexican soccer player was left as a free agent after His contract with Los Angeles FC will end. However, everything would be directed so that the “Bomber” returns to the club.

Carlitos has been linked with many clubs since becoming an out-of-contract footballer. Las Chivas de Guadalajara, Rayados de Monterrey, Cruz Azul and even European football were marked as their possible destinations. But everything seems to indicate that the “Bomber” would stay in the United States.

John Thorrington, general manager of Los Angeles FC, explained how the Mexican soccer player’s status is with the American institution. The Los Angeles team would end up retaining Carlos Vela in its squaddespite the fact that they could not renew their contract before the link ended.

“Carlos agrees that we can continue. It is very difficult in our league to do everything we want, but we have great respect for him, great appreciation for what he has done in our history, andI hope we can continue and we are still in those conversations“Thorington explained at a press conference.

The problem is Carlos Vela’s salary

In Major League Soccer there are salary limits for each of the franchises. This is an advantage for competitiveness, but a disadvantage in this particular case when you want to hire a fourth star. The so-called “Designated Players” are those who can exceed the salary limits.

Los Angeles FC recently opposed Hugo Lloris, former Tottenham goalkeeper and world champion with France in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. This has caused the club to run out of space among its “Designated Players”. Despite this condition, the board of directors of the Los Angeles team hopes to resolve this contractual obstacle to to count on the services of Carlos Vela again.

“The main reason is depending on the rules of our leaguewe were trying this entire period to find something we could offer, do the best we can for the player. Carlos is the first star of our club, he is a big part of our history and we are trying to find a solution. The question is what can we offer and what does it ask for and we need to align where possible,” added John Thorrington.

Carlos Vela arrived at Los Angeles FC in January 2018. Since then, the Mexican attacker has become one of the main banners of the American franchise. The “Bomber” accumulates 188 matches with the Los Angeles team in which he has been able to score 93 goals and concede 54 assists.

If he manages to expand his link with the American team, An ambitious goal will be to reach 100 goals for the cluba figure that is only 7 goals away from reaching.
